TRADITIONAL TO THE CONTEMPORARY

Raman is the only artist in her genre in the Northwest who has received local, regional, state and national awards for performing, teaching and choreography; and is the first artist of her genre nationally to receive many of these awards including recently as ‘Nattuvanar‘ Master Artist for conducting the orchestra. *Listed below.

She was the first recipient in her genre to receive thNational Dance Project NDP-NEFA grant for production and touring as well as from Regional Arts and Culture Council, Collins Foundation, Miller Foundation, Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Community Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, etc. Her other awards and recognitions include the Arts Leadership Award from Beaverton Arts Commission in recognition of her work in promoting the culture, heritage and the performing arts of India. She was Nominated for the NEA National Heritage Fellowship and the US Artists Fellowship Award.

She is the only artist who has received the ‘Master Artist Award’, seven times from the States of Washington and Oregon. The Washington State Arts Commission awarded her four years – a rare honor for an out of state artist, and University of Oregon Folklife Program, three years, recognizing her as a distinguished master artist in the Northwest.

Her tours have been supported by grants from National Endowment for the Arts, Westaf-Tourwest, lectures received grants from Oregon Council for Humanities, American Library Association, Washington County Coalition grants etc.
