TRADITIONAL TO THE CONTEMPORARY

Raman is an author of two critically acclaimed books on Indian dance selling over 250 copies locally and on Amazon to date. The book release ceremony was held Portland5 Centers for the Arts in May 2014 and was attended by luminaries int the fields of music and dance, arts commissioners and art connoisseurs.

The classical dance form Bharatha Natyam is one of India’s oldest classical dance forms and most popular dance form in India and around the world. The art has been receiving international recognition as one of the main world dance forms. Gaining much of this knowledge from the Gurus of Indian dance as an oral tradition in the Kalakshetra lineage, Raman has structured the knowledge into a written format. Having the experience of being a cultural ambassador of her art form and culture, Raman has also brought much of the information in these books from research done for her lectures, master classes and workshops presented over the years.

Her other publications include articles written for the Valley Times, Happenings Magazine, ICA Chakra newsletter, and she was also the editor and compiler for the 300 page Sangeetham book on Indian classical music for Rasika.
